About
SilentNoise is a silent art auction and party intended to make art accessible to those who produce it.
The high price point of art relegates most artists to being strictly producer, as opposed to consumer, of art. Rarely does the emerging artist have an opportunity to purchase art for him or herself; a glance at the price of artwork hanging in most galleries today reveals that buying art is a luxury reserved for those with high disposable incomes. The show was borne out of frustration with this status quo, as well as a simple desire to bring art directly to our friends, i.e. those who create it.
SilentNoise is a group show involving artists working in a range of mediums; photography, painting, sculpture, illustration, mixed media. All work is up for sale through silent auction. The auction is meant to be a mutually beneficial transaction for both artist and buyer. The artist is provided a platform to showcase and sell their work, while the buyer is provided a reasonable opening bid of $50, or less.
The current installment of SilentNoise, curated by Chris Barreto and Sabrina Smith, will be held at Gallery Bar, 120 Orchard Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Wednesday, April 25th, 2012. The auction is a one night event. Bidding opens at 6:30pm and closes at 10pm.
